Cost of Angioplasty

Knowing how much angioplasty costs is enough to give you a heart attack. I've been searching the Internet for the cost of angioplasty in the Philippines, in the hopes of finding a cheaper alternative, perhaps a charitable institution that does it for free. Nothing. I decided to do my own research and called The Medical City and The Philippine Heart Center to inquire. Here are the rates:

The Medical City

Angiogram costs P50,000 (procedure alone)
Angioplasty costs P300,000 (procedure alone) - a bare stent costs P80,000; a drug-eluding stent costs P120,000
PF for cardiologist costs P150,000 and up - usually they are two (so rate times two).
Bypass surgery costs P1 Million and up (all in all)

The Philippine Heart Center offers the ff packages:

For Angiogram (3-day stay):
Private Room = P60,200 (inclusive of doctor's PF)
Semi-Private Room = P52,000 (inclusive of doctor's PF)
Ward = P42,000 (inclusive of doctor's PF)

For Bypass Surgery (8-day stay):
Private Room = P617,480 (inclusive of doctor's PF)
Semi-Private Room = P494,322 (inclusive of doctor's PF)
Ward = P402,600 (inclusive of doctor's PF)

If you avail of the package, you need to pay the full amount upon admission. There will also be no discount from Philhealth and for senior citizens.

If you do not avail of the package, you need to pay P120K deposit for bypass surgery, and P150K deposit for Angioplasty upon admission to The Philippine Heart Center.

*Rates as of March 28, 2008

Papa Dong ~ doing Well and Good :)

Today, the twins visited my dad who was confined in the hospital. He is now in a regular private room after being released from the ICU last Friday, and from the Telemetry yesterday. He was very happy to see them. He couldnt carry them though, they just played on the bed. He would tickle their tummies, and they would laugh and shriek hehehe.

We thank the Lord for giving him a second life. :) We also thank Him for providing us the funds for the very costly procedure. God is good and He loves His children. Nothing is impossible with Him.

Smoking kills

If you have loved ones who smoke, tell them to stop. It's one of the main reasons why my dad have blocked arteries. Smoking is hard on the heart, and the toxins in cigarette smoke cause plaques to form in the arteries. I'm not here to scare you. The procedures are not cheap. They are very expensive. For his hospitalization, we were asked to prepare P1M. So tell them to stop smoking while it's still early. Take care everyone, God bless!

Vito and Carlos at 9 months

Carlos has four teeth (two up, two down). He is now 9.8 kilos. He has grown thick hair and we comb it on one side and he looks like our National Hero, Gat Jose Rizal hehehe :P He is still very behaved, with simple wants in life. He loves crumpling paper or plastic candy wrappers. He enjoys eating sweet mango and papaya. He still gets choked drinking water. He sleeps well in an airconditioned room; still hates the blanket; still cries the loudest when his milk is bitin.

Vito has no tooth, but munches bread and oranges as if he has a complete set of teeth. He weighs in at 8.5 kilos. He is very very energetic, very bungisngis at times, and shrieks when tickled in the armpits. He puts everything in his mouth and so his yaya watches him closely. He is still very attached to his pacifier. He enjoys watching the cartoons in Playhouse Disney Channel especially Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins and Higgly Town Heroes. (Carlos is a convert and now watches these shows too hehe)

What is Angioplasty?

My 64-year old dad was rushed to the hospital this morning due to a heart attack. He had low BP (70/50) and heartrate of 38 (the normal is 60 at rest). He underwent an Angioplasty procedure wherein the cardiologist inserted a stent (metal cage used to keep the artery open) because he had a collapsed artery. After two hours, the procedure was over. Praise God it was successful!

We need your continued prayers for him to have a quick and full recovery. He is still in the ICU. Thank you very much and may God bless you!

Awesome twosome

The boys are growing up so fast. Carlos is very serious pa rin (kunot nuo); Vito is still very active (makulit with a capital M). :P

Carlos enjoys crumpling pieces of colorful paper and candy wrappers. He loves to play with the remote and our cellphones. He has three teeth now - 1 in the upper gums, 2 in the lower. He sucks-in his cheeks, like a fish. He loves to eat chilled fruits.. kahit antok na, ngumu-nguya pa rin Haha! He has a big voice and when he cries akala mo aping-api.. nkka-panic tuloy. Hehehe. He loves looking at the mirror, sino kaya tong pogi na eto? Ahaha!

Vito is super hyper now. He will not stay in one corner. He loves to flap his arms - watch out, mabigat ang kamay nyan. He eats anything, as in! Akala mo may ngipin, pero wala hehe When you give him a toy, he will observe it for a few seconds, and slowly put it inside his mouth. If you take it away and put it on the floor, he will reach it using his foot, matalinong bata hahaha! He loves cartoons.. kahit antok na antok na, pipilitin nyang buksan ang mata just to see mickey mouse.

When they are asleep and one wakes up, he will crawl to the other one and wake him up.. When Carlos wakes up, he will crawl to his Kuya and snatch his pacifier. When Vito naman wakes up, he will turn to Carlos and land a heavy hand on his tummy. Riot.

We are trying to introduce more solid food to them everyday. Their meals now include lugaw and kamote. Aside from the usual veggies, carrots and potatoes, they have mango, papaya and banana. Feeding time is a whole different story. Riot din yun, ahaha!

Vito loves to rub his outstretched hands together, as if dancing Edu Manzano's Papaya song.. He loves to eat papaya, too! :)

Hello Summer!

Carlos and Vito chillin' in their pool ;)

My Lenten Sacrifice

Today is Good Friday. In the spirit of Lent, I will:

1. Eat just 1 bar of Choco Mucho, instead of two.
2. Walk home from gate of village, instead of riding a tricycle.
3. Lastly, I will smile and not complain - about anythin! :)

Oo sacrifice yan lahat Hehehe

How about you? What are you giving up this Lent? :)

I Am Legend

On my way home after work, I passed by Scout Esguerra. The place was deserted. There were no people, no cars, no dogs. The stores were closed. Everybody's on holiday. I felt like the only person in the world. It was a strange feeling I tell you.. it reminded me of I Am Legend. Hahaha!

For those fanatics of the film, you may want to see the Original ending of the movie. Click here.

Upon reaching Edsa, I made a quick stop at the Shrine. My my my, it was full of people. As in jam-packed! I left immediately.. I missed the twins!

Mall Schedule - Semana Santa 2008

I called up Shangri-La and Megamall today to ask if they are open. Their guards said they are closed today until tomorrow, in the observance of Mahal na Araw. They will resume operations on Saturday. The guard of Megamall added, "lahat ng malls sarado.. except sa Baguio.. yun ang sabi sa amin". Baguio? Oh thanks anyway! Hehe!

MRT and LRT are also closed this Cuaresma. They will be having their annual maintenance check. Operations will resume on Monday, March 24.

Not all stores are closed, though. For those who will do the Bisita Iglesia, you may want to visit the Red Ribbon and Goldilocks branches along Shaw. They are open today until 9PM. Just remember not to eat too much of those sweet cakes - Holy Week ngayon, pass muna sa masasarap na food! :P

A Blessed Holy Week to everyone! :)

Macho gwapito

It's amazing how babies grow up so fast! :)

At 8 months, Carlos has learned to balance himself well while sitting. He is always on serious-mode and appears to be in deep-thinking. Hahaha! He is content playing with his toys or crumpling a paper. The tv doesnt appeal to him that much.

Here he is with his favorite things. He pulls on the playgym in an attempt to stand up. He makes gigil sometimes - body shakin' and all. Must be the itchy gums or a new tooth coming out.

Happy Birthday, Chelle!

Behind that taray face is a sweet, caring, thoughtful friend. She is complete with office supplies hehe - I still have her pink compass set that I used for the twins cupcake stands :P I mean, who uses a compass diba?! Hahaha Well, good thing she has one I didnt have to buy anymore. So see, pasalamat pa ako *wink!*

Chelley, otherwise known as Tatay Chelle can be serious sometimes but she is super dependable and loyal friend. She is down-to-earth, funny and very smart. She hasn't found the right guy yet, but we are all praying that she finds him soon :)

Sending some love and kisses to you dear Chelley :) May God bless you and keep you safe, healthy and happy :) May your birthday wish come true! :) Mmuuaahh! :)

Cebu Pacific's Piso Fair Promo

Namuti na mata ko sa kkaantay for the piso promo... Wala!

My family are going to Dumaguete on April for my lola's birthday. And shempre, being the tipid queen that I am, I convinced them to wait for the piso promo of Cebu Pacific. I was told that Cebu Pacific will bring their piso promo back, hindi lang na-disclose when. Ay naku, when I checked their website this morning, nagtaas na sha from last week's rate. Maybe because others have purchased na and the cheaper seats are already occupied. Mukhang malabo na rin mag piso promo kase summer is just around the corner. Kaya ayun, dali dali sa pagbili ng tickets on-line!

Essence of Holy Week

Double-Pay, No Traffic, Alay Lakad, Retreat and Easter Eggs. These are the things that come to my mind when I hear "Holy Week". Double-Pay because I have work. No traffic because people are out-of-town. Alay Lakad because this is the time devotees walk to Antipolo Church. Retreat because my family attends the 3-day retreat in Ultra. Easter Eggs because of the egg-shaped sweets that are being given away by friends.

But what is Holy Week, really?

Holy Week commemorates the last week of the earthly life of Jesus Christ. It starts on Palm Sunday, and culminates in His crucifixion on Good Friday, and His resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Why is it important?

Holy Week shares with us Christ's experience of betrayal, arrest, trial, crucifixion, death and resurrection. It teaches us about sacrifice and humility.

It isn't just about parades and festivities. It calls us to change bad habits, and share the Good News with others. It asks us to examine our relationship with Christ, and to remain faithful to Him.

A Blessed Holy Week to All! :)

Wedding - Edwin & Maggie

Our friends, Edwin and Maggie tied the knot today, after 6 years of being together :) It was held at Paco Church and reception followed at San Agustin Grounds. It was an all-adult affair, and required strictly formal attire. That was our dilemma actually because it is so hot nowadays, and if the weather is really bad it would rain pa in the afternoon. I was torn on wearing a dress or slacks. I opted for a blouse and skirt terno. I was actually concerned about the guys. They needed to be in suit or long-sleeves polo. Ahahay.

We picked up Mark & Dianne and Paul Andrew along the way. We met Mike & Botch at Metrowalk (sporting a new blue Everest) and proceeded to SM Centerpoint, where Tito Boy was waiting. The mass is scheduled at 4pm and we were still in Sta Mesa (patay). When we arrived at the church, the bridal march has started. Here's the real couple:

I love weddings! :) It's nice to see people dress up and prettify for a day to celebrate love, friendship and romance. I love to see little girls in gowns, and boys in their little suits. I love the flowers, strings and confetti... :)

Meet the People possè

We had police escorts from church to reception. We passed one-way streets and beat red lights. One of our friends, Lester (who works at Coke), brought his Coke pick up truck. I was laughing the entire time because he positioned himself right after the bridal car. Hahaha!! Imagine - two police motorcycles, the bridal car, a coke pick up truck, a Ford Lynx and two Ford Everests.. Presidential convoy na sana ehhh.. Hahaha!

It was my first time in San Agustin. I have to say it's a nice place. Tabi tabi sila ng Barbara's, Illustrado, Patio Victoria, etc. I am really fascinated with Old Manila - cobblestone streets and spanish-inspired houses. The reception was an open, garden venue, thank God it did not rain. We had dinner shortly. The food was masarap and warm, catered by Makati Skyline. The bride and groom's parents spoke afterwards. I agree with what they said - Put God in the center of your relationship. Pag-aralan nyo ang tamang pananalita, pero mas importante na pag aralan nyo kung pano makinig.

To Edwin and Maggie, we wish you all the best! :) may God continue to bless the two of you with good health, success and happiness. :) Congrats on the little one who's on the way ;)

Shopping for shirts.. I mean, socks

I went to Megamall today to buy some socks for Carlos. He has outgrown his socks already. He needs it when he is on his walker. Shoes are kinda uncomfy.

I passed by the teens section since it is located at the same floor as the infants section. I noticed 50% OFF signs and went to browse through the items. I saw this cute black top with some silver embellishments from Hot Kiss. It was selling for only about P200. Well, it's been a long time since I bought something for myself.. so.. I asked for the L size and quickly added, "ay! XL na lang"- Remember, this is teens section, Hahaha! :P The XL fit me well. And so, I got it! :P

I'm payatot, so I dont usually have an XL of anything. But now, I own two XL tops - the other one is a non-maternity blouse I bought when I was 5 months preggy with twins. That, I dont intend to wear anytime soon. Hahaha!

I was happy with my purchase. The next time I want to buy a shirt, I will definitely consider the teens section. :) It's cheaper than the items in the ladies section. That's a nice tipid tip right there ;) The irony of it all.. a 30-year old buying clothes in a store for 13 yrs old Hahaha! Sabi nga nila, ang bata gusto tumanda, ang matanda gusto maging bata. Ahahay!

Oh! by the way, I was able to buy the socks - P75 for 3 pairs. It was on sale, too! ;)

Google Adsense

I got approval from Google Adsense today. :) Yehey!! :)

Although experimental lang ang pagsali ko, when I read the words "Your application has been approved", it immediately put a smile on my face. Hahaha!

I am a newbie blogger, and I'm taking this one baby step at a time. :)

Wedding - Jeo & Mau

Today, we witnessed the wedding of my brother, Jeo and his fiance, Mau.

It was officiated by Mayor Domingo at Malolos, Bulacan. The ceremony was in pure Tagalog, but here's the gist (in Taglish hehe)

When you get married, you open a new chapter of your life. Marriage is done with consent from both parties, hindi sapilitan. Gawin mong mabuti ang marriage nyo, sa bayan at sa mata ng Diyos. Pag ang asawa mo ay kinamumuhian ng lahat, anjan ka para i-pagtanggol sha. Nanjan ka for support. Sa mag asawa, kung kinakailangang mag tiis, araw araw, habang buhay, gagawin mo.

Very strong words, but its all true. And, I can relate hehe. Nothing can prepare you for married life. There are new challenges everyday. You and your partner must really be committed to make the marriage work. Other important ingredients are trust, respect and open communication. Prayers help a lot, too!

After the Mayor's message, they exchanged rings. And that's it! They are now husband & wife! :)

Reception immediately followed at The Legend Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant. The food was good! :)

Of course if its a wedding, there must be a cake. So my mom and I went to Goldilocks, which was conveniently located beside the resto. We got the biggest choco-mocha cake and two toppers - one Minnie and one Mickey. We used our artistic skills to decorate the cake with the candy flowers and placed the toppers in the middle. :)

Congratulations Jeo and Best Wishes Mau! May you stay happy together, forever! :)

Beat the heat

On a warm sunny afternoon like today, nothing can refresh you like a quick, cold shower. Of course, for the twins that means taking a bath with lukewarm water :P

Here is Keith, Vito and Carlos, preparing to take a bath.

We start by preparing their bath essentials - toiletries, towels, new diapers and clothes. We then rub some baby oil on their backs. We just wash their hair with a little baby shampoo. We are careful not to put water in their ears. We then wash their bodies with some liquid baby soap. We are careful they dont drink bath water - it's one of the leading causes of diarrhea in babies. We then wipe them off, put on new diapers and clothes. Tada! They smell so mabango, plus they sleep well after a bath. :)

The day with Kabuki at St Lukes

Today, I met my Kabuki sisters Polly, Dong & Chelle at Starbucks Quezon Ave branch - otherwise known as the ground floor of my office :P We went to St. Lukes to visit our other Kabuki sister Peen because her dad, Tito Rey, just had an operation to treat his colon cancer (stage 1).

Inside the car, I asked the girls, "ano ba ung colon?" Dong immediately replied, "ung kwit!". Hahaha! Polly corrected her, "tutuldok!" Tawa kame ng tawa inside the car kaya nag-kanda ligaw-ligaw na kame!

Normally, the trip to St Luke's from my office would only take about 10 minutes. But, with Dong as the Driver, and Polly as the Navigator, our trip was 1 hour 30 minutes long! We left Quezon Ave at 3PM and reached St Lukes at 4:30PM. That included a trip to España and SM Centerpoint Bwahaha!! Our word for the day was "U-TURN".

Uhm, mag u-u-turn na ba tayo jan?
Teka, u-turn tayo ulet
Dito ba ang u-turn?
Huh, Left-turn? Dong mag u-turn ka na!!

And so, we finally reached St Lukes and Peen was already waiting for us by the elevators. She told us not to be noisy because Tito Rey is sensitive to sound. He had a successful 3-hour operation last night. Ay naku pagdating sa room, we recounted our trip and tawa kame ng tawa! So we decided to have merienda muna outside because we didnt want to disturb Tito Rey. We went to Delifrance (infront of St Lukes) who was giving out free coffee, their new product - Vodka Sputnik.

We made chit chat and updated everyone with the new happenings in our lives. Polly is 3 months preggy (Accdg to Peen, walang pinagbago sa katawan but Polly is quick to react, Oi tignan nyo wedding pic ko! Hehehe) Dong just came back from Boracay and brought two picture albums with the twins' baptism and Polly & Jayson's wedding. Peen is graduating this March 13 at PICC. As for Michelle.. walang balita except that Dr Quiroz, your soulmate, is waiting for you.. Ahaha! Hey, I heard Malou has a new commercial - Milo. Let's watch out for that ;)

We left St Lukes at 7PM coz we all have work tomorrow. I really had a great time seeing (half of) my Kabuki sisters! :) I miss the bonding moments, the bloopers (Dong baket ka paos? Oo may tonsil kse ako) - mga tipong ganyan.. Haha!!

Till next time, and hopefully hindi na hospital ang setting! :) Take care you all, Kisses to everybody I love you, mwah! :)

Colon cancer is cancer of the large intestine (colon), the lower part of your digestive system. Surgery (colectomy) is the main treatment for colorectal cancer. Signs and symptoms may include changes in bowel habits, blood in your stool, persistent cramping, gas or abdominal pain.

Beauty and the Beast

Monday is usually our time to do major household chores, pay our bills, grocery or marketing. After going to the bank, hubby and I watched Vantage Point in Mega today. (Nice movie, by the way) While waiting for the screening time, we had lunch at Tokyo Tokyo and went to Toy Kingdom. We went to the Super Heroes section to check out their Superman and Batman items. We bought toy trains for the twins, one each, of course. We've grown accustomed to buying two of everything for them. :P

Here's a souvenir pic of me and The Incredible Hulk, or what I would like to call a modern photo of Beauty and the Beast. Hahaha! :P

Whenever someone asks me where this picture was taken, I say "I was in Singapore for the weekend"... Then I will quickly add, "Nah, sa Megamall lang yan!" Hehehe... So much for wishful thinking! ;)

The twins at G4

We brought the twins to Glorietta today - their first trip to the mall. It was more like an experiment kind of thing. We wanted to know if we can already bring them to pashalan spots, like the mall. We went to Timezone at G4.

Well, Carlos was behaved the whole time. He would just look at cars and people that passed by. Vito was masungit coz he wasn't able to sleep. He would grab things he could reach. They both didn't want to ride the stroller, maybe because the mall was new to them and there were so many people. So, no choice but to carry them around. Oh my Vito is heavy, I think I broke my arm... :P (The other yaya is on day off).

By the way, it's the first time I saw G2 after the explosion, and man, it's a wreck. I remember buying my kikay stuffs at Goldcrest. Now, it's gone. Bye bye..

In the end, we agreed that the twins are not yet ready for the mall. We'll just come back on their 1st birthday ;)
